Paul Signac was a founder of Neo-Impressionism and the movement's best-known theorist. Harbours, sails and coastal views became the constant subject of his painting; a water surface gave the best ground for building colour from separate touches.
The Signac works in this section come as three-piece sets. Because these are blue-weighted coastal compositions, wood tones add warmth while a black frame separates the colour fields more sharply.
For the other name of the same movement, see Henri-Edmond Cross.
